YOUR TREATMENT GUIDE / 01

How laser hair reduction works

Laser light is absorbed by pigment in the hair and converted into heat that damages the follicle. The aim is a lasting reduction in unwanted hair, rather than a promise that every hair will disappear permanently. The Retreat’s published treatment information identifies the Cynosure Elite+ system.

Hair grows in cycles, so a course is usually needed to reach hairs at different stages. Hair colour, skin tone, the area and hormonal influences can affect your response. White, grey and very light hair may respond poorly because there is little pigment for the laser to target.

YOUR TREATMENT GUIDE / 02

Which areas and concerns can you discuss?

The clinic’s price guide includes facial areas, underarms, bikini, legs and back. Tell the practitioner which areas matter most to you, how you currently remove hair and whether you experience irritation or ingrowing hairs.

Discuss your skin type, recent tanning, medicines, previous laser treatments and any relevant medical conditions. Unexplained or changing hair growth may need medical assessment; cosmetic hair reduction does not treat an underlying hormonal condition. Suitability is decided individually, even where equipment can treat a range of skin tones.

YOUR TREATMENT GUIDE / 03

Your consultation and appointment

Start with the clinic’s free consultation and patch test. Ask what improvement is realistic, the likely number and spacing of visits, the cost of the areas you want treated and whether maintenance may be needed. A patch test helps assess the response but does not remove every risk.

During treatment, protective eyewear is used and the practitioner works across the agreed area with laser pulses. You may feel brief stinging or heat. Tell the practitioner if the discomfort feels excessive; settings and comfort measures are part of the treatment discussion.

YOUR TREATMENT GUIDE / 04

Preparing for laser hair removal

Arrange treatment around holidays and sun exposure. The original clinic guidance asks clients to avoid tanning, fake tan, waxing and plucking before treatment, and to arrive with the area free of products. Ask for the current preparation instructions and exact timing for your appointment.

Confirm when and how closely to shave: the practitioner needs an appropriate hair length and shaving advice may differ by area. Tell the clinic about new medicines or changes in your skin before each visit. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice from the prescriber.

YOUR TREATMENT GUIDE / 05

Aftercare and treatment planning

Temporary redness, warmth or swelling around follicles can occur. Follow the clinic’s advice about cooling, washing, sun protection, exercise and when to resume products or hair removal. Avoid picking or rubbing irritated skin.

Progress should be reviewed during the course. Hair reduction is gradual and repeat or maintenance appointments may be discussed. Ask the clinic when to return rather than assuming one fixed interval will suit every area or every person.

Risks and when to contact the clinic

Possible risks include burns, blistering, changes in skin colour, infection and scarring. These should be explained before you consent. The photographs show individual examples and cannot predict your result.

Contact the clinic promptly if you develop blistering, worsening pain, spreading redness or a reaction that is more severe than the aftercare guidance describes. Seek medical help if you feel unwell or have an urgent concern. Keep the clinic’s contact details and written instructions to hand.

GOOD QUESTIONS WELCOME

Before
your visit.

Which areas can I ask about?

The published price list includes facial areas, underarms, bikini, legs and back. Other areas are available on request.

How many visits will I need?

The clinic will explain a treatment plan and appointment intervals during your assessment. Your needs and response to treatment are individual.

Does laser work on every hair colour?

The laser relies on pigment. Darker hair is generally a better target; very light, white or grey hair can be unsuitable. The practitioner will assess your combination of skin and hair.

Is one session enough?

Usually a course is discussed because hairs grow in different cycles. The number of visits and any maintenance depend on your assessment and response.

Can I have treatment just before a holiday?

Discuss your travel and sun exposure before booking. Recent tanning and the need for sun protection can affect when treatment is suitable.
